Leadership Mental Intelligence?

It also had me curious during the early stage of my career, why do certain smart guys touch a wall and do not want to step up the ladder of their career any further? And why do individuals with poor intellectual ability and skill sets get sore... A question still held me interested – what separates individuals from their peers? Is it executive or mental intelligence, or both?

It made me aware that deeper thinking and clear insight – outstanding cognitive skills, domain experience are baseline criteria for any given leadership role. Toping up with emotional intelligence might get person on the ladder well ahead.

Emotional intelligence is all about thoughts and desires — being conscious of them, controlling them, and also understanding certain people's feelings. We may see so many brilliant politicians, infinite supply of clever thoughts, which would yet not make it to the great ones, unless they are blessed with strong emotional intelligence. Individuals with strong IE do it with ease; display confidence to ruffle feathers and push a transition. They're really imaginative. They're looking beyond the door.

This is what inspired me to express my insight. I've been consulting for an infra business CEO for over two decades. Nevertheless, a qualified Chartered Accountant performed extremely well in transforming a corporation into a leader in infra-space. His understanding of the environment appeared insignificant in promoting his activities and accomplishments. To accept a transition, he packed up his financial skills. Added new talents, learned technical expertise, perfected design techniques, mentored 500 plus developers, directed mega-scale building ventures, supervised 2500 skilled employees, produced powerful financial results, year after year I could clearly attribute this incredible professional achievement to his incredibly deep emotional intelligence. Let me grab a few important lessons from my past, in order to grasp EI well.
