Website Traffic - How To Boost Your Web Page Ranking

Web traffic is simply the amount of information received and transmitted by users to a site. This in effect does not include the actual number of visitors who actually visit a site, but only the volume of traffic received and generated by search engines.

Since the mid-90's, search engine traffic has been the biggest portion of all Web traffic. This is mainly because the volume of traffic and the volume of websites being visited is always increasing at an exponential rate. The amount of web traffic, as measured by search engines, also goes through several cycles; some times more, at other times less.

Search engine traffic can go up very rapidly for one simple reason, the search engines always rank websites according to what they found most interesting. If your site contains useful and/or interesting information then you will be ranking high on the search engine list.

The problem, however, is that many websites simply do not bother to look into the search engines; if your website contains information that is not particularly helpful or interesting then it might be that the search engine will rank it lower than other websites containing more useful information. Search engines are constantly working around the clock to find new and better ways to rank websites, and it can often take a while before they discover your site is providing a service or product that people actually need or want.

Another reason for this is that search engines are used to ranking websites by what is known as Page Rank. This refers to how often the particular page of your website has been requested by a search engine user. Higher Page Rank means higher search engine rankings and greater traffic to your website.

One of the most important things that you can do to boost your website traffic and therefore your web page ranking is to write articles and blogs on topics that are related to the type of website that you have created. For example, if you own a dating website then writing articles and blogs about romance and dating would be extremely relevant. However, it would be pointless writing articles and blogs about fashion and beauty if your website was a bank. This of course will cause duplicate content issues and will make it harder to rank your site high in the search engines.

You should also try to make your website interesting to read. If you provide good information then your visitors will want to visit your website again. Visitors spend most of their time reading and following links and if they are bored with the website then they will just close the window without ever returning to it. Therefore you should provide interesting, informative and relevant information on your website so that your readers have something to look forward to seeing.

Finally, it should be remembered that the longer it takes your visitors to arrive at your site the less likely they are to make a purchase. You need to optimize your site to attract as many visitors as possible and in the shortest amount of time possible. Make sure that your site has a professional appearance and a user friendly website design.
